Heat, Sevilla and the Plaza de España

Sevilla, City of Andalucía

hot summer sun beats down

the arc of the Plaza de España

seems to focus the heat,

tiled surfaces hot to touch.

Opposite the cool shade of the

Parque Maria Luisa

dappled light, cool greens.

Sunlight and Shadow, Palace of the Duke of Medina

The Palace of the Duke of Medina Sidonia

is found in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Andalucía, Spain.

Now a hotel, the gardens in the courtyard

are an oasis of peace and cool.

Late afternoon sun casts patches of dappled light

through the luxuriant vegetation,

highlights of colour in the shade.
