At St Patrick’s Well the sun
Breaks through swift moving clouds
A dancing shimmer of light on
Rippled water, so clean and clear
Bubbles rise from the small yellow stones
That form the lake bed, luxuriant
In vegetation fed by spring water,
Rich in oxygen.
The light reflects around the small hollow
A clearing in ancient woodland
Worn stone walls, a chapel’s ruins,
Catch the brilliance of the sun
As it flickers through swaying branches
Shadows dance across Celtic symbols
Carved in blocks of weathered stone.
